Driving Test Theory Questions Explained
A clear breakdown of what to expect in the UK theory test, including the multiple-choice question section and hazard perception scoring — from a DVSA approved instructor in Wallasey.
Multiple Choice
50 questions, 57 minutes, pass mark of 43 or more.
Hazard Perception
14 video clips, up to 5 marks per hazard, pass mark 44 out of 75.
You'll answer 50 multiple choice questions in your theory test, followed by the hazard perception section — so make sure you put the revision time in beforehand. You must pass both parts in the same sitting to pass your theory test overall.
During hazard perception, you'll watch 14 video clips featuring various road hazards. Click whenever you spot a developing hazard — including hazards that develop further after you've already flagged them. There are 15 scoreable hazards in total, each worth up to 5 marks, and you need 44 out of 75 to pass.
Your theory test pass certificate is valid for 2 years, so you'll need to pass your practical test within that window — otherwise you'll need to sit the theory test again.
